Mexican · Día de Muertos

Bread that makes room for memory.

A table can hold people who are here, and memories of people who are not.

Pan de muerto is part of many Día de Muertos ofrendas in Mexico. Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History describes it alongside photographs, candles, flowers and other offerings. Regional traditions differ; a single shape or recipe cannot stand for all of them.

Bring it to your table

When you share a food that reminds you of someone, tell their story too. Let the person who knows the tradition lead the conversation.
